FH6 Racing Line Guide — Find the Fastest Line
The racing line isn't an opinion — it's geometry. The line that makes the corner's radius as large as possible lets you carry the highest speed. But the fastest line isn't always the geometric line, and knowing when to take a late apex, an early apex, or compromise your entry for a pass is what separates quick drivers from smart racers.
FH6 gives you a driving line assist — blue arrows painted on the road showing braking zones, turn-in points, and the recommended path. It's a great learning tool but it's conservative. The suggested braking points are 5-10 meters early. The recommended line prioritizes safety over speed. Turn the assist off after your first 20 hours or you'll hard-code braking points that leave time on the table. Here's how the real racing line works and how to find it on every corner on the map.
The Basic Racing Line — Outside, Inside, Outside
Every corner has one fastest line: approach from the outside, clip the inside at the apex, exit to the outside. This maximizes the corner's radius. A larger radius means you can carry more speed — same physics as a wider highway off-ramp vs a tight city corner.
The sequence: start at the outside edge of the track approaching the corner. Turn in toward the inside curbing. Hit the apex — the inside point of the corner, usually marked by a curb or paint. Let the car drift back to the outside edge on exit, using all the track width. If you're not touching the outside curbing on exit, you left speed on the table — you could have carried more throttle through the apex.
The mistake most players make: turning in too early. An early turn-in points the car at the apex before you're close enough, which means you apex early and run out of road on exit. You either lift off the throttle to stay on track, or you go wide into the dirt. Late turn-in is almost always better than early — it opens up the exit and lets you get on full throttle sooner.
Late Apex vs Early Apex — When to Use Each
The geometric racing line produces a mid-apex — you clip the inside right in the middle of the corner. But not every corner is the same, and apex choice changes everything that follows.
Late apex (recommended for 70% of corners): Turn in later, hit the apex deeper into the corner, straighten the exit. This sacrifices a tiny bit of entry speed for a massive exit speed advantage — you can get on full throttle earlier because the car is pointed straighter on exit. Late apex wins races because the car behind you is watching you pull away on every straight, and they can't do anything about it. Late apex also gives you options: if someone dives inside, you can switch to a cut-back and cross them up on exit.
Early apex (situational): Turn in early, clip the apex near the corner entry, then run wide on exit. Early apex carries more entry speed but forces a compromised exit — you're on the outside edge with the car still turning. Use early apex only when you're defending position (cover the inside line so they can't pass) or when the following straight is short enough that exit speed doesn't matter (like a chicane).
The lap time difference between a perfect late apex and a sloppy early apex on a corner leading onto a long straight is 0.3-0.5 seconds — all from exit speed, not entry.
Corner Type Strategies — One Line Doesn't Fit All
Hairpins (90-180 degrees, low speed)
Maximum rotation required. Take the widest possible entry — use the full outside curbing or even a bit of the runoff. Brake hard, trail brake to rotate, hit a late apex, and power out. Hairpins reward patience on entry and aggression on exit. The driver who gets on throttle first wins the next straight. Tracks with big hairpins: Playa Azul final turn, Casa Bella fountain corner, Guanajuato tunnel exit.
Sweepers (60-90 degrees, medium to high speed)
These are about momentum. You can't muscle through a sweeper — you carry speed. The line is a smooth arc from outside to inside to outside with minimal steering correction. Any jerky steering input scrubs speed. Look through the corner to the exit, not at the apex. Your hands follow your eyes. Sweepers are where the geometric line is closest to the racing line because you don't need to compromise for a better exit. Playa Azul has a perfect sweeper in sector 2 — that long right-hander where you can carry 180 km/h if the line is perfect.
Chicanes (left-right or right-left combinations)
Chicanes are about sacrificing the first corner for the second. The priority is exit speed from the second turn because it leads onto a straight. Enter the first corner wide, clip the first apex late, then the car is already positioned on the outside for the second turn. Drive through the middle — don't fight for the perfect first apex because you'll compromise the second. A common FH6 chicane: Guanajuato's double-right near the market, where the second corner exits onto the longest straight on the track.
Esses (multiple linked corners)
Esses are a rhythm section. The line through the first corner determines your position for the second, third, and fourth. Smoothness is everything — you're linking corners without straight sections between them, so any mistake compounds. The ideal line through esses often isn't the geometric line through any single corner — it's the compromise line that lets you maintain the highest AVERAGE speed through the entire sequence. Elevation Changes — When the Track Goes 3D
FH6's Mexico map has massive elevation changes that most racing games don't. Hills change everything about the racing line.
Uphill corners: Gravity is helping you brake and hurting your acceleration. You can brake later going uphill because the incline adds deceleration. But the exit matters more — you need a late apex so you're pointed straight when you start climbing. Any steering angle on an uphill exit kills momentum. The racing line shifts slightly later on uphill corners to prioritize exit straightness.
Downhill corners: Gravity is fighting your braking and helping your exit speed. Brake earlier going downhill — the car has less grip under braking because weight shifts forward even more aggressively. The line through downhill corners needs more margin because the car is light over the rear and prone to oversteer. Late apex is critical — an early apex on a downhill corner sends you into the guardrail.
Crest corners: The car goes light over a crest. If you're turning at the crest, the tires have zero grip for a split second. The line should avoid having the apex AT the crest — either apex before it or after it, never on it. Guanajuato has a nasty crest-left where taking the geometric apex launches you into the barrier.
Wet Weather Line Adjustments
In the rain, the racing line changes. The normal dry line develops a rubber coating from thousands of cars laying down tire residue — that rubber becomes slippery when wet. On a soaked track, the fastest line is often slightly off the dry line, where the asphalt grip is more consistent. Look for the darker asphalt patches — that's where grip lives. In FH6's rain races, take a line about 1 car width outside the dry racing line for better initial grip, then gradually migrate toward the dry line as the track dries.
Passing Lines vs Hot Lap Lines
Your qualifying line (hot lapping alone) and your race line (with other cars around) are different. A hot lap line takes the geometric ideal every time because there's no traffic. A race line adapts.
When setting up a pass, you might take a compromised early apex to get alongside on the inside — slower through the corner, but now you own the inside for the next turn. When defending, cover the inside line early — force the attacking car to go around the outside, which is the longer path. The driver on the inside controls the corner. A defensive line is always slower than the racing line, but racing isn't about your fastest lap — it's about finishing ahead of the other car.

Using the Driving Line Assist as a Learning Tool (Then Ditching It)
The full driving line assist (blue braking + green acceleration zones) teaches you three things: where to brake, where to turn in, and where the apex roughly is. It's useful for your first 10-15 hours on a new track. But here's what it doesn't tell you: the suggested braking points are conservative by 5-10 meters. The line doesn't account for your car's specific handling. It doesn't differentiate between late and early apex. And critically — it becomes a crutch. You stop looking at the track and start following the blue line like a train on rails.
Progression: Full line assist (hours 1-20) → Braking only assist (hours 20-30) → No assist (hour 30+). When you turn it off, you'll be slower for about an hour. Then your eyes will start reading the track instead of the HUD, and you'll find braking points and lines that are faster than what the game recommends. The assist is training wheels. Racing is more fun without them.
