ABS Off: You control everything. Trail braking with ABS off gives you complete brake modulation — you can hold exactly 15%, 20%, 25% pressure without the game interfering. The risk is lockup. If you brake too hard with steering angle, the front tires lock and you slide straight off the track. But here's the thing: lockup only happens when you're at high brake pressure with high steering angle. During trail braking, you're at low brake pressure (20-30%) and moderate steering — the lockup risk is actually minimal. ABS off is faster — about 0.2-0.3 seconds per lap on most tracks — because every brake input is exactly what you intend.

How to Practice — The Step-by-Step Drill
Pick a medium-speed corner with a clear braking zone — the last hairpin at Playa Azul or the tight left at the bottom of Volcán Sprint. Run this drill:
- Baseline (5 laps): Drive your normal line. Note your braking point, minimum apex speed (watch the speedometer at the apex), and exit speed. Write these down.
- Brake 10 meters later (5 laps): Move your braking point 10 meters deeper. Don't trail brake yet — just brake later. You'll understeer wide on entry. That's expected. Note the new braking point.
- Trail brake 20% (10 laps): Brake at the new later point. This time, ease off to 20% brake as you turn in. Hold 20% through the first third of the corner. Feel the front grip. - Too much trail brake: You're carrying 50%+ brake into the corner. Rear tires are completely unloaded, car spins. Fix: start at 15% and build up. If the rear slides, release brake immediately — don't try to save it with steering alone.
- Braking at the normal point: Trail braking enables later braking. If you brake at your old point AND trail brake, you're now too slow. Fix: move braking point 5-10 meters deeper each session until entry speed feels right.
- Turning in too early: Trail braking requires a slightly later turn-in because you're carrying more speed. If you turn in at the normal point, you apex early and run wide on exit. Fix: delay turn-in by half a car length.
