BMW M5 CS vs Ford Mustang Dark Horse, German Precision vs American Muscle

Four-door super sedan vs V8 pony car, which modern performance icon actually rules the road in FH6?

I've spent way too many hours in both of these cars and honestly, this matchup is way more interesting than the spec sheets make it look. The M5 CS is BMW's most powerful production sedan, a 627-hp AWD monster that can seat five while chasing supercars. Tbh it's absurd. And the Mustang Dark Horse? Ford's most track-capable 5.0-liter Mustang, 500 hp, RWD, chassis tuned for lap times instead of drag strips. No compromises. In FH6 both sit in S1 class and cost similar amounts. But they serve completely different purposes and I'm gonna break down exactly how.

Performance Analysis

Look, the M5 CS is just faster in almost every way you can measure. The AWD system gives it a massive launch advantage, on a standing start the M5 jumps ahead while the Dark Horse is still fighting wheelspin. The twin-turbo V8 also has a broader power band, you get peak torque from 1,800 rpm to nearly 6,000 which means you're basically never in the wrong gear. Honestly it's kinda ridiculous how effortless it is. Point and shoot.

But the Dark Horse fights back in corners and honestly, that's where things get interesting. Despite being RWD it's 200 lbs lighter and has a lower center of gravity. The MagneRide suspension, that's Ford's magnetic dampers, gives it surprising composure through bumpy corners. On a technical circuit with lots of direction changes, the Mustang's nimbleness starts closing the gap with the M5's power advantage. I've watched it happen lap after lap. It's real.

Driving Feel

The M5 CS is almost too competent. Ngl it's so good at everything that it can feel kinda clinical, point the wheel, press the throttle, and the computers figure out the rest. The steering is accurate but not particularly talkative, and the exhaust note is muted compared to the raw V8 in the Mustang. It wins races but tbh it doesn't always make you grin doing it.

The Dark Horse is the complete opposite: loud, visceral, demanding. That Coyote V8 screams to 7,500 rpm with a hard-edged bark that the M5's turbo V8 can't touch. Actually the chassis communicates more through the seat, and getting a clean lap requires managing the rear end on corner exit. It's slower than the M5. By a decent margin. But man, every lap is an event. Worth it.

Upgrade Potential

Both cars have excellent upgrade paths and I've built out both of them multiple times trying different setups. The M5 CS can push into S2 with upgraded turbos and weight reduction, strip out the rear seats, you can't use them anyway, and you've got a 3,700-lb AWD missile that bullies supercars. Fr.

The Dark Horse responds brilliantly to suspension and tire upgrades. With race tires and coilovers it transforms from a muscle car into a genuine track weapon that can compete in S1 with much more expensive machinery. Honestly I've beaten cars that cost triple with a well-tuned Dark Horse and the sweat lords in multiplayer never see it coming. It's lowkey one of the best value builds in the whole class. Sleep on it at your own risk.

Verdict

M5 CS for winning races, Dark Horse for enjoying them. The BMW is objectively the better car, faster, more capable, easier to drive fast. If you wanna win S1 road races just buy the M5 CS and don't look back. It's that simple.

But the Dark Horse is the car you'll actually want to drive when winning isn't the point. The sound, the steering feel, the satisfaction of nailing a clean corner in a RWD V8, it delivers an experience the M5's clinical perfection can't replicate. And at 60,000 CR it's less than half the price. That's not nothing.

Buy both if you can. The M5 for competitive events, the Dark Horse for everything else. At under 200,000 CR combined they're arguably the two best value propositions in S1 class. I've got both in my garage and I don't regret either purchase for a second.
