Nissan 370Z Nismo Tuning Guide — Best A/S1 RWD Setup

The 370Z Nismo is the only "normal" car on this list. No hybrid system, no four-figure horsepower, no carbon monocoque. A VQ37VHR V6 naturally-aspirated engine, 350 horsepower, a 6-speed manual, rear-wheel drive, 1,480 kilograms. It costs a fraction of a P1 or an Evija, and you can buy a used one on the street. That's why so many people in FH6's entry-level crowd drive it — it's the purest RWD driving experience you can buy, with zero electric gimmicks to fall back on.
In A class, the 370Z Nismo is a real weapon. 350hp pushing 1,480kg isn't a great power-to-weight ratio (236hp/ton), but the VQ37's throttle response — because it's naturally aspirated — is linear, predictable, and every millimeter of pedal maps to a precise amount of torque. That matters a lot at A-class pace. You don't have to manage turbo lag and torque spikes like you would in a turbo car; you can spend all your attention on your line and your braking points. An A-class 370Z Nismo is the best teaching tool there is for learning the fundamentals of driving.
Things change when you move up to S1. The 370Z Nismo needs heavy modification to reach 900 PI in S1 — turbocharging, engine strengthening, wide-body kit — and once done it can run S1, but it'll always be mid-pack. That's not a tuning problem, it's a platform problem: 1,480kg is heavy, and the chassis is adapted from the Skyline 370GT rather than a pure track architecture. My advice: keep the 370Z's main battlefield in A class, and treat S1 as a fun exercise.

The A-class light tune is the sweet spot. Intake and exhaust upgrades plus an ECU tune to 380hp, stage-one weight reduction shedding 50kg, and semi-slick tires. Don't chase top speed — chase cornering flow. In the small world of A class, flow is fast.
Tuning Parameters — The Details Matter
Tire Pressure
Front: 30.0 PSI, Rear: 29.0 PSI. A-class speeds aren't high enough for tire temperatures to climb to the point where you need high pressure for support. The 29 PSI rear maximizes rear contact patch on slow corner exits — the 370Z's rear axle doesn't have an aggressive limited-slip differential, so the tire pressure has to help out.
Gearing
Final Drive Ratio: 4.08 (A class). The VQ37's naturally-aspirated torque peaks at 5,200 RPM — a mid-to-high-revving engine. Short gearing (a high final drive ratio) keeps the engine in the high-rev range through corners. The 370Z's 6-speed manual has relatively wide stock ratios, and a short final drive tightens up each gear. The tradeoff is top speed, but in A-class racing you'll rarely exceed 260 km/h.
Alignment
Camber: Front -1.8, Rear -1.2. A-class speeds aren't fast enough, and mid-corner lateral force isn't big enough, to need a lot of negative camber. The -1.8 front covers brake dive, and the -1.2 rear is conservative but keeps the rear tires fully on the road under acceleration. Toe: Front 0.0, Rear 0.15. The positive rear toe handles the 370Z's somewhat restless tail under hard braking into corners. Caster: 6.5.
Anti-Roll Bars
Front: 26.0, Rear: 22.0. The 370Z's front-rear weight distribution is a near-perfect 53:47 (front-mid engine), so it doesn't need especially stiff bars to manage an imbalanced load. The 26 front bar mainly controls roll under brake dive, and the 22 rear bar gives the rear axle enough independent-suspension freedom to grip on exit.
Springs
Front: 550 lb/in, Rear: 480 lb/in. The 370Z Nismo's stock suspension is already stiffer than a regular 370Z, and going further adds little — 1,480kg doesn't need 700+ pound springs. The 550 front supports braking, and the 480 rear keeps the rear tires planted on bumpy road-racing surfaces. Ride height: lower 1.0 inch. There's still a bit of gap stock.
Damping
Rebound: Front 7.0, Rear 6.2. Bump: Front 4.2, Rear 3.8. Damping on the soft side — A-class racing needs the ability to absorb surface imperfections. Moderate rebound, soft bump, keeping the tires in contact with the road as long as possible. The Nismo's stock damping is already well set up; fine-tuning is all it needs.
Aero
The 370Z Nismo has a small ducktail and a small front splitter stock. If you can upgrade the Forza aero, set the front splitter to cornering bias and the rear wing downforce at 50%. Aero effect is limited in A class (speeds aren't high enough), but it's mainly there to kill the slight rear lift in corners above 200km/h.
Brakes
Balance: 52% front, Pressure: 102%. Braking demands aren't high at A-class speeds, and 52% front is neutral for a car with balanced front-rear weight. 102% pressure isn't aggressive — brake fade isn't a big issue in A-class racing. Upgrading the brake lines is better value than upgrading the calipers — first let the existing braking system work at full strength.
Differential
Rear differential: Accel lock 50%, Decel lock 25%. The VQ37 only makes 370Nm of torque, so it doesn't need an aggressive rear diff. 50% accel lock is enough to stop the inside rear wheel spinning, and 25% decel lock adds tail stability on lift-off into corners without causing too much understeer.
Best Race Types
A-class road racing — the 370Z Nismo's home turf. Technical circuits are its favorite: low-to-medium-speed linked corners let its agile chassis shine. Street racing is also comfortable because the suspension is on the soft side (stock road setup). It does well in the rain — its moderate power and weight give it strong control on a wet surface, unlike big-power cars that are constantly trying to kill you. Don't touch off-road. Skip drag racing — A-class drag is ruled by turbo and lightweight cars.
Tuning Share Codes
The 370Z Nismo's community is part of the JDM crowd — these people care about driving enjoyment more than absolute lap times. Common Tuning Mistakes
Blindly chasing horsepower in A class. The VQ37's ECU gains are limited — spending the same PI on weight reduction and tires goes way further than flashing it to 420hp.
Tire pressure as high as S1/S2 cars. A-class speeds and tire temperatures are both low; 28-30 PSI is the sweet spot, and above 32 the contact patch is too small.
Springs too stiff. You think stiff springs = good handling — but 1,480kg on track springs just makes the car bounce like a pogo stick.
Ignoring the VQ37's shift points. A naturally-aspirated V6 needs revs to make power — hold 4,500-7,500 RPM, and don't upshift at 3,500.
