McLaren 765LT vs Ferrari 488 Pista, Lightweight V8 Track Specials Battle It Out
755-hp British Longtail vs 710-hp Italian Pista, both twin-turbo V8, both RWD, both built to crush lap times. Which one actually delivers in FH6?
Honestly this matchup is almost unfair to compare because these cars were built with the exact same mission: take the already-brilliant base car, strip it down, crank up the power, and make it a track weapon. The 765LT is McLaren's longtail evolution of the 720S, 755 hp from the 4.0L twin-turbo V8 with 176 lbs shaved off through titanium exhaust, thinner glass, and carbon everything. The 488 Pista is Ferrari's track-focused 488, 710 hp from the 3.9L twin-turbo V8 with 200 lbs dropped versus the standard 488 GTB. In FH6 both sit in S1 class and both are absolute meta contenders. But the differences are way bigger than the spec sheets suggest.

Performance Analysis
The 765LT is the faster car and it's not subtle about it. McLaren claims a 2.8-second 0-60 and it feels every bit that quick in FH6, the launch control is genuinely violent and the power-to-weight ratio is in a different league from the Pista. The longtail aero package, that extended rear diffuser and bigger active wing, gives more downforce at speed, so the 765LT feels more planted through fast sweepers where the Pista starts getting a little floaty.
The Pista has better corner exit traction. Ferrari's Side Slip Control system lets you get on the throttle earlier and harder out of corners without the rear stepping out. The 765LT requires more throttle discipline on exit. The Pista also has better brake feel with slightly shorter stopping distances despite the weight disadvantage.
Driving Feel
The 765LT feels like a race car with plates. The hydraulic steering is the best in any modern supercar, full of texture and detail that electric racks just can't replicate. The carbon tub gives incredible rigidity, and the sensation of speed is amplified by how low you sit and how much the car shrinks around you at pace. It's intense.
The Pista is more approachable despite the track focus. The steering is lighter, the ride is less punishing over bumps, and the dual-clutch gearbox has slightly smoother shift logic. The V8 sound is richer and more musical than the 765LT's slightly industrial twin-turbo note. The Pista feels like a supercar that went to track school. The 765LT feels like a track car that got registered for the road.
Pros / Cons
765LT Pros: Higher power-to-weight ratio, hydraulic steering feel, more downforce at speed, lighter, longtail aero actually works, feels more special.
765LT Cons: Harsher ride, needs throttle discipline, exhaust note isn't as musical, more expensive, nervous in bumpy braking zones.
488 Pista Pros: Better traction out of corners, superior brake feel, richer V8 sound, easier to drive fast consistently, cheaper, more forgiving.
488 Pista Cons: Heavier, less downforce, softer steering, doesn't feel quite as special inside, some understeer at the absolute limit.
Verdict
765LT for outright speed, 488 Pista for everyday speed. The McLaren is the sharper tool, full stop. If you want the fastest S1 lap times and you're willing to work for them, the 765LT rewards skill more than the Pista and the ceiling is higher.
But the Pista is the car you'll actually want to drive more often. It's 95% as fast while being significantly easier to extract that performance from, and the Ferrari badge still means something in online lobbies. I own both. The 765LT is the garage queen I bring out for serious competition. The Pista is the one I grab when I just want to go fast without thinking too hard about it.
