The F-Type R is one of those cars that leaves you conflicted. The 5.0-liter supercharged V8 — the AJ133, the old workhorse Jaguar has been using since 2009 — is not short on power from any angle at 575 horses. Full-time all-wheel drive makes launches feel like a catapult, and 1,745 kg is not unreasonable for a GT. In FH6's S1 class, the F-Type R's on-paper numbers go toe-to-toe with the BMW M3 Competition. But behind the wheel? The two cars are nothing alike. The M3 is a precision scalpel; the F-Type R is a British sledgehammer with a personality — brutal, with an explosive exhaust note, yet surprisingly communicative exactly when you need it.

The supercharger's torque response is the soul of the F-Type R — plant the throttle and the blower builds boost instantly, none of that "wait a second" turbo lag awkwardness. The 8-speed ZF automatic is simulated fast enough in FH6, but the gearing runs long (a side effect of fuel-economy priorities). The VTG AWD system defaults toward rear bias — Jaguar deliberately tuned it that way to preserve driving fun. You can feel the tail getting twitchy mid-corner, but the AWD quietly steps in just as the front tires start to slide, pulling you back from the edge of embarrassment. That near-danger-but-safe dynamic is the most addictive thing about the F-Type R.

The 575hp stock setup is the most comfortable for daily driving. The 650hp version squeezes the supercharger's potential with a smaller pulley upgrade — 0-100 is 0.4 seconds quicker, but the handling rating drops from 7.8 to 7.5 because the extra power keeps the AWD system busier and the front tires break traction more easily. The 530hp de-tuned build looks conservative but is actually the most fun — cutting 45 horses lets you dump all the PI into suspension and weight reduction, the top speed actually creeps up thanks to the lighter body, and an 8.2 handling rating is rare for an S1 AWD car.

Tuning Parameters — Every Setting Explained

Tire Pressure

Front: 31.5 PSI, Rear: 31.0 PSI. AWD cars need more balanced tire pressures than RWD cars — the front wheels also drive, so you can't deliberately pamper the rears the way you would on a rear-drive car. 31.5 front / 31.0 rear is a balanced setup, keeping the front-to-rear temperature gap within 0.5 PSI. The front tires usually run hotter in a race (steering + driving + braking all pile onto the front axle), so if the gap gets too wide, drop the fronts by 0.5 PSI.

Gearing

Final Drive Ratio: 3.55 (S1). The stock ZF 8HP gearing runs long — Jaguar's engineers stretched sixth and seventh gear for cruise economy. The 3.55 final drive tightens things up so second, third, and fourth are dense enough for the track. The supercharger's torque is extremely strong from 2,000 RPM, so you don't need short gearing to keep the revs up the way you would with a naturally aspirated car. Top gear still pulls to 310km/h without bogging in the low revs. Shift at 6,500 RPM — the AJ133 peaks at 6,800 RPM, and shifting at 6,500 lands you right in the torque sweet spot.

Alignment

Camber: Front -2.2, Rear -1.6. Standard fare for a front-engine AWD car — the front wheels carry a double load (steering + driving), so they need more negative camber. -1.6 at the rear is enough for AWD — all-wheel-drive corner-exit traction comes from the front wheels working together, so the rears don't need extreme negative camber to hold grip. Toe: Front 0.1, Rear 0.2. A touch of front toe-in keeps the steering from being too sensitive — a 1.7-tonne AWD car gets tiring if the steering is too twitchy. Rear 0.2 toe-in maintains high-speed stability. Caster: 7.0.

Anti-Roll Bars

Front: 30.0, Rear: 28.0. A stiffer front bar than rear bar is standard on AWD cars — front 30.0 controls the 1.7-tonne body's cornering roll, while rear 28.0 gives the tail enough rotation without overdoing it. AWD naturally tends toward understeer (the front wheels steer and drive), and a slightly stiffer rear bar helps the nose turn in when you lift off. If you're running high-speed, sweeping circuits, drop the rear bar to 26.0 for a calmer rear end through fast corners.

Springs

Front: 680 lb/in, Rear: 600 lb/in. The extra weight of a front engine plus a supercharger means the front springs need to be firmer than a conventional NA V8. The rear 600 lb is a concession to the car's GT identity — too stiff and you lose the ride quality Jaguar is most proud of. Ride Height: lowered 1.2 inches. The F-Type R sits low from the factory, and dropping too much leaves insufficient suspension travel, causing bouncing over undulating roads. The GT baseline is never to slam it into a stanced posture.

Damping

Rebound: Front 8.5, Rear 7.5. Bump: Front 5.5, Rear 5.0. The rebound philosophy is similar to the BMW M3 — controlling how a heavy AWD body settles back after inputs. The bump stays conservative to keep the tires planted on the road. The F-Type R's adaptive dampers are comfort-biased from the factory, and in FH6 manually firming up the rebound fixes on-track body control without destroying the GT's character.

Aero

The F-Type R has an active rear wing from the factory (it rises automatically at 110km/h). In FH6, fit the Forza rear wing and Forza front splitter, and set the wing downforce to 55%. Push it past 55% and your top speed drops below 290 — a number that will get you walked on the straights in S1 with no way to recover. 55% is the sweet spot that gives the rear axle high-speed stability while keeping the 300km/h top speed. Choose a grip-biased front splitter to balance out the AWD's understeer tendency.

Brakes

Balance: 54% Front, Pressure: 105%. A front-engine AWD car relying on the front brakes to stop is the standard setup. The 54% front / 46% rear split properly handles the forward weight transfer under braking. 105% pressure is just right for 1.7 tonnes — the stock F-Type R brakes aren't bad, but they're not top-spec either, and 105% makes up for it. If you notice braking distances stretching out over five-plus laps in a race, bump the pressure to 110%.

Differential

Center Differential: 60% rear bias. The F-Type R's AWD system is rear-biased by default, and the 60% rear bias keeps the car feeling like a rear-drive GT rather than a dull AWD understeer machine. Front Differential: Accel Lock 30%, Decel Lock 10%. Keep the front lock conservative — too much front diff lock makes the steering heavy and understeer badly. Rear Differential: Accel Lock 60%, Decel Lock 35%. 60% accel lock distributes the supercharged torque efficiently to both rear wheels, and 35% decel lock gives the tail stability on corner entry.

Best Race Types

Road racing — with AWD on its side, the F-Type R is a true all-rounder in S1. High-speed circuits are where it shines — the AWD corner-exit traction gets you down the straights a step ahead of everyone else. Street racing — workable, but the body is wide, and threading through alleys feels like opening a small door with an oversized British key. Rain — the F-Type R's paradise. The AWD advantage in the wet is bigger than any other attribute, and in the rain the F-Type R is practically cheating in S1. Drifting — not ideal; even rear-biased AWD isn't pure enough, and the drift angles feel clumsy. Drag racing — the AWD launch is first-class among AWD GTs, but don't compare top speed against pure RWD muscle cars.

Tuning Share Codes

The F-Type R's tuning community isn't huge, but the discussion quality is high. The consensus on this car is consistent — it's not the fastest and not the most exciting, but it's one of the most "complete" experiences in S1. If you have a balanced setup that handles both daily driving and the track, share it. Bonus points if you can reproduce the F-Type R's real-life exhaust crackle — certain exhaust upgrades get you that signature popping.

Common Tuning Mistakes

Treating AWD like god mode. Some people think an AWD car doesn't need careful suspension and differential tuning — dead wrong. AWD just adds front-wheel drive; if the suspension, tire pressure, and differential don't match, the four-wheel drive ends up fighting itself through corners, with all four wheels pulling in different directions. Especially when the front diff lock is set too high.

Ignoring the supercharger's torque curve. The AJ133's torque runs nearly flat from 2,000 RPM all the way to 6,500 RPM. Some people gear it like an NA car — super short first and second to "build revs." The supercharger doesn't need that — short gearing just makes shifts more frequent and wastes that beautifully flat torque plateau.

Lowering it too much. The F-Type R is a GT, not a hardcore track tool. Slamming it like a stanced show car ruins the suspension geometry — the double-wishbone front camber curve goes inverted under extreme lowering, and the outside front wheel ends up with positive camber mid-corner. Keep the drop within 1.2 inches.
