FH6 Photo Challenges — Complete Every Photo Task
Photo mode in FH6 isn't just a screenshot tool — it's a progression system that rewards credits, wheelspins, exclusive cars, and outfit items. Horizon Promo alone has over 500 individual cars to photograph. Weekly photo challenges rotate every Thursday with new locations and requirements. And if you know where to find specific rare cars parked in the open world, you can knock out dozens of Promo shots without ever touching photo mode in a race.
I ignored photo challenges for my first 80 hours because they seemed like filler content. That was a mistake. I left about 15 free wheelspins, two exclusive cars, and roughly 2 million credits on the table. This guide covers every photo system in FH6 and the fastest way to clear them all.
Horizon Promo — Complete Car Photography Catalog
Horizon Promo is FH6's version of a Pokédex for cars. You photograph every vehicle in the game and get tiered rewards based on how many unique models you've captured. Access it from the Horizon Festival menu under the "Promo" tab. The counter tracks unique cars only — photographing the same model twice doesn't help.
The key insight most players miss: you don't need to own the car to photograph it. Any car you see in the open world — AI traffic, Drivatars in races, cars parked at player houses, cars at the festival site — counts toward Promo progress. This means you can clear massive chunks of the catalog by hanging out at the main festival drag strip during peak hours when other players are showing off their garages.
Horizon Promo reward tiers:
- 50 cars photographed: 1 Wheelspin
- 100 cars: 2 Wheelspins
- 150 cars: Horizon Promo T-shirt (outfit item)
- 200 cars: 3 Wheelspins + 100,000 CR
- 300 cars: Rare car horn + 250,000 CR
- 400 cars: 5 Wheelspins + Exclusive Forza Edition car
- 500 cars: "Shutterbug" achievement + 10 Super Wheelspins
- All cars: Legendary photographer badge visible in online lobbies
Best Locations to Find Specific Cars for Photos
Some car types are harder to find organically. Here's where each category spawns reliably:
- Hypercars (Koenigsegg, Bugatti, Pagani): The highway west of the main festival. Set up at the tunnel entrance and wait — players constantly drag race here and half of them are in hypercars. You'll knock out the entire hypercar Promo section in 20 minutes
- Classic Muscle (1960s-70s American): AI traffic in the desert region around Dunas Blancas. Crusie around the dirt roads near the abandoned airstrip and you'll see Camaros, Mustangs, and Chargers in AI traffic that count for Promo
- JDM / Tuner Cars: The city streets at night. Player Drivatars favor the urban circuits for drifting and street racing, and the JDM crowd shows up in force. Look for the parking lot near the skyscraper district
- Off-road / Rally: Any dirt race. Start a dirt circuit event, let the AI line up at the start, and photograph every car before the race begins. Restart the event to cycle the AI car selection
- Vintage / Classics (pre-1960): These are rare in the open world. Your best bet is the auction house preview screen — open any classic car listing and photograph the preview model. Works for Promo
- Barn Find cars: The barn find restoration garage has all your barn finds lined up. Photograph each one while they're being restored. Each counts individually
Weekly Photo Challenges
Every Thursday at 7:30 AM PT, the Festival Playlist refreshes with a new weekly photo challenge. These are location-specific — you need to photograph your car at a particular landmark with certain conditions (car type, weather, time of day). Completing the challenge awards 1 point toward your seasonal playlist progress, which contributes to the series reward cars.
Weekly challenge tips:
- The location requirement is precise. You'll see a yellow circle on the map marking the photo zone. Your car needs to be inside that circle with the correct car type for the shot to register
- Weather and time-of-day requirements can be bypassed with blueprint events. Create a custom blueprint at the target location and set the weather/time to match the challenge. Takes 30 seconds and saves you from waiting for in-game conditions to line up
- If the challenge requires a car class you don't own, rent one from any race event. Switch to the required car at the race start screen, abandon the race, and drive to the photo location. The game registers your current car, not an "owned" car
How to Photograph Moving Cars
Horizon Promo tracks count for moving cars too, but the default photo mode pauses the game — which freezes the car you're trying to capture. The workaround:
Enter photo mode while driving alongside the target car (in convoy or during a race). The photo mode still pauses the action, but the paused model of the moving car is fully rendered and counts for Promo. The key is getting close enough that the car's details are visible — if the game can recognize the car model from the photo, it counts. Distance limit is roughly 50 meters in-game.
Better method for Drivatars: start any race, wait for the countdown to finish, and immediately enter photo mode before the pack pulls away. You have about 3 seconds to pan across the starting grid and snap every car. Each one counts individually. On a 12-car grid, that's 11 new Promo entries per race if you're quick.
Quick Photo Button Shortcuts
The default photo mode button is D-Pad Up on controller and P on keyboard. But these shortcuts are faster in specific situations:
- Quick photo (no UI): Press and hold D-Pad Up for 2 seconds to take an instant photo without entering photo mode. The shot uses default settings — good for Promo grinding, bad for composition
- Photo mode during replay: After any race, watch the replay and enter photo mode at any point. You have unlimited time and can reposition the camera anywhere around any car in the race. This is the best way to get clean shots of specific cars for Promo completion
- Drone mode into photo mode: Enter drone mode first (opens map, press right stick on controller), fly to the car you want to photograph, then switch to photo mode. Gives you aerial angles and lets you reach cars parked in awkward spots
The replay trick alone can clear 50+ Promo entries in an hour. Run a few races with diverse car classes, load the replays, and photograph every car from every angle. The replay free-cam has no distance limit for photo mode registration.
