The Marathon is the longest Street Scene race in Forza Horizon 6 — a roughly 38-kilometer night-time run through Mexico's cities, highways, and backstreets. Unlike the Goliath or Colossus, the Marathon happens on open roads with civilian traffic. NPC cars don't politely pull over when you're barreling toward them at 350 km/h. They merge without signaling, brake for no reason, and occupy the exact racing line you need for the upcoming corner. The Marathon is as much about reading traffic as it is about driving fast, and that's what makes it unlike any other endurance race in FH6.

I've won and lost more Marathon races to traffic than to other drivers. The skill ceiling here isn't cornering speed — it's the ability to process traffic patterns at high speed and make split-second lane choices that keep your momentum alive. A clean Marathon lap in traffic is one of the most satisfying achievements in FH6.

Marathon Route Breakdown

The Marathon loops through the urban and suburban areas of the FH6 map, mixing highway sprints with tight city navigation. Here's the sector breakdown:

Sector 1 — City Grid (km 0-10): The race starts in the dense urban center — tight streets, 90-degree corners, and the highest traffic density on the entire track. This sector sets the tone because you'll encounter 8-12 NPC cars per kilometer. The key is to treat every intersection as a potential traffic hazard. Slow in, scan the gap, power out. The traffic cars follow predictable patterns — they stay in their lane, signal before turns, and don't swerve — so once you learn the civilian car behavior, you can predict their positions. The tightest corner in this sector is a hard right into a narrow alley at roughly km 7. If there's a bus or truck in that alley, you need to brake extra early and slot in behind it rather than trying to squeeze past.

Sector 2 — Highway Sprint (km 10-20): The Marathon opens onto an elevated highway for roughly 10 kilometers of high-speed racing. Traffic is lighter here — mostly in the right lane — but speeds are higher, so collisions are more catastrophic. Stay in the left lane as much as possible; NPC cars primarily occupy the right and center lanes. The highway has several long sweepers that can be taken flat-out, but watch for traffic cars merging from on-ramps. They appear suddenly and merge slowly, often right into your racing line. A quick lift and lane change preserves far more time than rear-ending a Toyota Corolla at 380 km/h.

Sector 3 — Suburban Streets (km 20-30): The route drops off the highway into suburban surface streets with moderate traffic and a mix of corner types. This sector has the most unpredictable traffic because suburban NPC cars include delivery vans, buses, and slow-moving trucks that take up an entire lane. The corners are medium-speed — fast enough that traffic is a factor, slow enough that you have time to react. The most dangerous spot is a T-intersection at roughly km 25 where traffic cars frequently turn left across your path. Approach this intersection in the right lane to give yourself an escape route if a car turns in front of you.

Sector 4 — Downtown Return (km 30-38): The final sector returns to the city center for a sprint to the finish through streets you've already driven — but in the opposite direction. Traffic patterns are reversed, so the gaps you memorized on the way out don't exist on the way back. This sector tests your adaptability. The finishing straight is a wide boulevard with four lanes, so if you're racing head-to-head in PvP, the draft and lane choice on this final stretch usually decides the winner.

Best Street Cars for Marathon

The Marathon rewards responsive handling, strong brakes, and enough top speed for the highway sector. Raw speed builds are too twitchy in traffic; pure grip builds are too slow on the highway. Here are the best picks per class:

S1 Class (900): Lamborghini Huracan STO — Sharp turn-in, massive ceramic brakes, and enough power to dominate the highway sector. The STO's rear-wheel steering makes tight city corners feel wider than they are. Average clean lap (with traffic): 7:50. Alternative: Porsche 911 GT3 RS — slightly more forgiving over curbs and bumps, essential in a race where you'll inevitably clip a few.

A Class (800): BMW M4 Competition — Front-engine balance, responsive steering, and excellent brakes make this the ideal A-class street racer. It's stable under hard braking (critical for traffic avoidance) and the turbocharged engine pulls strongly out of slow city corners. Average clean lap: 8:45. Alternative: Audi R8 V10 Plus (mid-engine precision, slightly less forgiving in traffic due to rear weight bias).

B Class (700): Honda S2000 — Lightweight, razor-sharp handling, and narrow enough to squeeze through traffic gaps that wider cars can't. B Class Marathon is the purest test of traffic navigation because speeds are low enough that your line choices (not your car's power) decide the race. Average clean lap: 10:20. Alternative: Mazda MX-5 Miata (even lighter, even more nimble, but the soft suspension from the factory means you'll want a handling-focused tune).

S2 Class (998): Not recommended for Marathon. S2 speeds make traffic reactions near-impossible — by the time you see an NPC car in your path at 400+ km/h, you've already hit it. Stick to S1 and below for street scene endurance racing.

Marathon Tuning — Street Racing Setup

Street racing tuning is different from track tuning because you're optimizing for traffic avoidance and uneven road surfaces, not perfect lap times on a closed circuit:

Brakes: This is priority number one. Set brake pressure to 120% and bias to 52% front. You will brake hard to avoid traffic dozens of times per lap, and a car that stops inconsistently is a car that hits NPCs. The slight front bias prevents rear lockup under panic braking, which keeps the car controllable when you're avoiding a bus that just appeared around a blind corner.

Suspension: Medium-soft. City streets have curbs, potholes, and uneven surfaces that a stiff track setup will fight. Springs at 55-60% stiffness with slightly softer bump damping than rebound. You want the suspension to absorb road imperfections without bouncing the car off its line. Ride height at medium — lowered enough for center of gravity benefits, high enough to survive curb strikes.

Gearing: Slightly shorter than a track tune. The Marathon alternates between slow city corners and highway speed, and you need acceleration out of tight turns more than a 400+ km/h top end. Set your final drive so the car tops out around 340-360 km/h — the highway sector rarely lets you exceed that in traffic anyway.

Tires: Semi-slick or street compound. Race tires overheat in stop-and-go traffic patterns and offer diminishing returns. Semi-slicks give you 90% of the grip with better heat management over a full lap. Tire pressure at 30 PSI for responsive turn-in when dodging traffic.

Differential: Lower accel lock than track setups — 50-55% for RWD, 60% rear / 50% front for AWD. Too much lock makes the car snappy on corner exit, and snappy cars hit traffic. You want smooth, predictable power delivery that lets you modulate the throttle mid-corner when an NPC car forces a line adjustment.

Night Racing and Visibility

The single best traffic skill: look through the car in front of you. If you're focused on the car immediately ahead, you're reacting to danger, not anticipating it. Scan 3-5 cars ahead, identify the gaps, and position your car for those gaps 2-3 seconds before you reach them. This is the same skill real track drivers use in multi-class racing, and it translates perfectly to street scene traffic management.

Best Car Class for Marathon

After testing every class extensively, A and S1 are the sweet spots for the Marathon. A class is fast enough that the race feels quick but slow enough that you can process traffic and make deliberate decisions. S1 is the competitive sweet spot — fast, intense, and the most popular class in Marathon rivals, meaning the leaderboard is deep and competitive. S2 is too fast (you'll hit traffic constantly). B class is fun for a casual cruise but the highway sector drags at those speeds.

If you're new to street scene endurance racing, start with an A-class car. Learn the traffic patterns without the pressure of S1 speeds. Once you can run three consecutive clean laps in A class without touching a single NPC car, step up to S1. That jump from A to S1 is the biggest difficulty spike in the Marathon because the speed increase halves your reaction window for traffic.
