FH6 Car Unlocks Guide — Every Free & Progression Car

You start FH6 with a choice of three starter cars and some credits. Within an hour you'll have a handful more from early campaign missions. By the time you finish the main progression, you'll have earned somewhere north of 50 cars without spending a single credit. This guide tracks every car you can unlock through gameplay — story rewards, barn finds, Accolade milestones, seasonal events, loyalty bonuses, and special promotions. No Auction House, no Autoshow. Just cars the game hands you for playing.

Starter Cars — Your First Choice Matters

The opening sequence of FH6 offers three starter cars, and this choice has more weight than it might seem. The car you pick becomes your first tuned vehicle, your first campaign car, and the one you'll spend the most time with in the opening hours. The Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray is the balanced all-rounder — mid-engine, 495 hp, handles like a sports car but forgives mistakes like a GT car. The Ford Bronco Raptor is the off-road starter — slower on pavement but lets you explore dirt trails and cross-country routes from minute one. The Toyota GR Supra is the tuner's choice — rear-wheel drive, turbocharged, and responsive to early upgrades in ways the other two aren't. If you plan to focus on road racing, take the Corvette. If you want to explore the full map immediately, the Bronco. If you plan to dive deep into tuning, the Supra.

The two cars you don't pick are purchasable from the Autoshow, so you're not permanently missing out. But you'll likely earn enough credits to buy them before you'd naturally need them for any event.

Story and Campaign Rewards

FH6's campaign structure — the Horizon Adventure chapters — each unlock a car upon completion. These are milestone cars, not random drops. Complete the Road Racing chapter and you earn a Porsche 911 GT3 (992). Finish the Dirt Racing chapter: Ford Escort RS Cosworth. Cross Country: Ford F-150 Raptor R. Street Scene: Nissan 370Z Nismo. Drag Racing: Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. Each story expansion chapter adds its own reward car. The total from main campaign milestones is roughly 15-18 cars depending on expansion ownership.

The Horizon Stories side missions offer additional unlocks. These are shorter narrative-driven sequences — stunt driver gigs, car delivery missions, photo journalist assignments — each with a car reward at the end of the story arc. Notable story rewards include the classic Mini Cooper (delivery missions), the Jaguar E-Type (photo missions), and the Hoonigan Ford Focus RS RX (stunt missions).

Barn Finds — The Classic Car Sweep

Barn Finds are FH6's treasure hunt mechanic. A rumor pops up on your map pointing to a general area. You drive there, search within the highlighted zone, and find a derelict classic car sitting in a barn. The car enters a restoration queue, and after a set amount of real-world time passes (or a credit payment to rush it), it's added to your garage fully restored.

There are typically 14-16 barn finds in FH6's base game. The roster includes classics like the Ferrari 250 GTO (the holy grail barn find — real-world value over $48 million, FH6 Auction House value over 20 million), the Jaguar XJ220, the Toyota 2000GT, the Lamborghini Miura, the Porsche 356 Speedster, and the Ford GT40 MK1. Some barn finds are triggered by campaign progression. Others unlock from specific actions — buying certain houses, reaching specific Accolade milestones, or completing story chapters. You can't simply drive around and find them all at once. The game gates them behind progression to maintain the discovery cadence.

Barn Find restoration time varies. Commons restore in about an hour. Rares take overnight. The 250 GTO takes multiple real-world days unless you pay credits to rush it. The rush cost is usually 1-2 million credits, which is a bargain compared to the Auction House price.

Accolade Rewards — Milestone Cars

Accolades are FH6's achievement system, and many award cars at specific thresholds. Reaching 100,000 total Accolade points unlocks a hypercar — typically the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport or similar. Reaching certain PR Stunt milestones (three-starring all danger signs, speed traps, etc.) awards specialty cars. Completing all showcase events awards the car from the final showcase. These aren't listed as "car rewards" in the Accolade UI — they trigger at specific point thresholds and the car is added to your garage automatically. Check your Accolade tracker regularly.

Seasonal and Festival Playlist Cars

Each four-week seasonal Series adds at minimum eight exclusive cars through the Festival Playlist — two per week (one at 20 points, one at 40 points). Over a typical year that's 96 cars you can earn without spending credits. The seasonal cars rotate: some are new to FH6, some are returning exclusives from previous Forza titles, and some are Autoshow cars offered as free rewards to help new players build their garage.

The Festival Playlist completion car — earned by reaching 240 points across a full Series (all four weeks) — is typically the most desirable exclusive of the cycle. Think of it as the "do your homework" reward. The Series completion car is always new-to-FH6 and rarely appears in the Forzathon Shop for at least three months after its Series ends.

Loyalty Rewards and Special Promotions

If you've played previous Forza titles (FH4, FH5, Forza Motorsport), FH6 grants loyalty reward cars on first launch. These are typically iconic cars from previous games decorated in a special livery. The "Forza Loyalty" cars include the cover cars from FH4 (McLaren Senna), FH5 (Mercedes-AMG ONE), and sometimes the Forza Motorsport cover car. These are technically free but require save data from the previous games on your account.

VIP Membership includes a set of three exclusive cars delivered to your garage immediately: typically a modern hypercar, a classic muscle car, and a rally-bred off-roader. The VIP cars are pre-tuned and competitive in their respective classes. VIP also doubles credit payouts from races, which makes buying the remaining Autoshow cars substantially easier.

Game Pass perks and manufacturer promotions occasionally award free cars through the in-game Message Center. These are time-limited — the car DLC code arrives via message, you claim it from the message, and it's added to your garage. Check the Message Center tab weekly. Free car codes don't last forever.

Complete Free Car Checklist Approach

The most efficient path to maximizing free cars: finish the main campaign first (15-18 cars), collect barn finds as they unlock (14-16 cars), complete each weekly Festival Playlist to 40 points (8 cars per month), hit Accolade thresholds naturally through play (5-10 milestone cars), claim loyalty and VIP bonuses on day one (3-6 cars), and check the Message Center weekly (1-5 promotions per year). Over a year of regular play, you're looking at 150+ cars without opening the Autoshow.
