Honda Integra Type R Tuning Guide — Best A Class Setup

The DC2 Integra Type R is the best front-wheel-drive car ever made — and I won't be taking rebuttals on that. The B18C, that 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine, makes 200hp stock with an 8,900 RPM redline, and when VTEC opens at 5,800 RPM the sound goes from family car to race car in 0.3 seconds. 1,150kg paired with the factory LSD and double-wishbone front suspension makes it feel nothing like a FWD car through corners — the nose tracks like it's locked onto a rail.

FH6 reproduces the DC2's B18C character faithfully. The high-rev zone is the soul of this engine — below 5,800 RPM it's just a normal 1.8, but the moment VTEC opens, the tach screams to 8,900 RPM like it's possessed. The tuning philosophy is clear: keep the revs in the high zone as much as possible, and use the LSD plus the front suspension geometry to beat AWD cars through the corners. Around 250hp in A class is the sweet spot; the stock 200hp in B class is more than enough for lower-tier events.

250hp in A class is the DC2's comfort zone. The B18C can be pushed higher, but the tradeoff is even weaker low-end torque, and the stretch before VTEC opens becomes harder to live with. Remember, this is a naturally aspirated engine, not a turbo — every single horsepower is bought with revs.

Tuning Parameters — Every Setting Explained

Tire Pressure

Front 30.5 PSI, Rear 29.5 PSI. 1,150kg is absurdly light, so the pressures don't need to be high. The front runs 1 PSI higher than the rear because a FWD car piles all its driving and steering duties onto the front axle. The front-to-rear gap can't be too big — the DC2's light weight means the workload difference between the axles is far smaller than on a heavy FWD car like a GTI.

Gearing

Final Drive Ratio: 4.50 (A class). This may be the highest final drive in this whole guide. The B18C's working range is 5,800-8,900 RPM — a usable window of only 3,100 RPM, far narrower than a turbo engine. Close gearing is the DC2's lifeline — after every shift the revs have to land above 5,800 RPM. If they drop below 5,500, you'll spend the next 1-2 seconds wondering if the car is broken. Don't stretch the gearing to buy top speed; the DC2 doesn't win on top speed.

Alignment

Camber: Front -3.0, Rear -2.0. The DC2's double-wishbone front suspension has natural camber gain in its geometry, but the front-axle roll from high-rev corner entry on a FWD car still needs a high static camber. -2.0 at the rear gives the rear wheels some room to move in corners — the DC2's tail is obedient and can offer a little rotation. Toe: Front 0.0, Rear 0.1 in. Caster: 7.5 — high caster paired with double wishbones gives first-class steering feel through corners.

Anti-Roll Bars

Front 24.0, Rear 34.0. This is the classic FWD track setup — the rear bar far stiffer than the front. A soft front bar keeps the front contact patch planted through corners (the FWD front wheels do too much work already), and a rear bar stiffened to 34 makes the tail rotate. If the rear feels too lively, drop to 32. But don't go below 30 — the DC2's best trait is its willingness to turn, and a conservative anti-roll bar setup wastes it.

Springs

Front 500 lb/in, Rear 450 lb/in. The DC2's stock springs are on the soft side, so the track setup needs more stiffness. The beauty of a light body is that the springs don't need to be that stiff to control it. The 50 lb front-to-rear gap gives the front axle extra braking support. Lower 1.2 inches — the stock Integra sits too high.

Damping

Rebound: Front 7.5, Rear 6.5. Bump: Front 4.5, Rear 3.5. The DC2 uses damping to fine-tune mid-corner attitude. Rebound controls how fast the body settles back after roll, and bump absorbs road impacts. Bump stays low because the DC2 isn't heavy — too stiff a bump makes the steering wheel bounce over rough pavement.

Aero

The DC2's stock aero is basically just that Type R wing — it looks cool but does limited actual work. For A class I recommend the Forza wing at 50% downforce. At 1,150kg, the body gets unsettled by airflow in high-speed corners, and a little downforce noticeably improves high-speed stability. Don't overdo it — the DC2's top speed is already modest.

Brakes

Balance: 58% Front, Pressure: 95%. At 1,150kg you don't need much stopping power. 58% front balance is the standard FWD setup. 95% pressure is enough — too heavy a foot locks the front wheels, and locked front wheels on a FWD car means losing your steering. 95% on track sits right at the edge: maximum braking force without locking.

Differential

LSD: Accel 65%, Decel 20%. The DC2's helical gear LSD from the factory performs very well in FH6. 65% accel lock ensures both front wheels pull together on corner exit — that's the key to the DC2's fast exits. Keep the decel lock low — 20% is enough to help stabilize braking into corners, and anything over 25% makes the steering heavy and resistant on entry.

Common Tuning Mistakes

Gearing too wide. The most common DC2 track mistake. You see your top speed getting pulled and think you need to lengthen the gearing — but longer gearing drops your revs below VTEC on every corner exit, and the overall lap time gets slower. Better to get overtaken on the straight than to lose revs in the corners.

Rear anti-roll bar too conservative. When a FWD car understeers, people hammer the front axle — more camber, softer front bar. In reality the rear bar is the key to fixing understeer. The DC2's chassis rigidity is more than enough — be bold and crank the rear bar up.

Ignoring the VTEC engagement point. Shifting and dropping the revs below 5,500 is basically a car accident — below VTEC the B18C puts out less than 150hp. Check the tach before every shift and make sure the next gear lands above 6,000 RPM.
