Ferrari 488 Pista Tuning Guide — Best S1 Setup

The 488 Pista is the easiest Ferrari to jump into that I've driven in FH6. Not because it's slow — a 720 hp twin-turbo V8 in a car under 1.4 tons has a power-to-weight ratio near the supercar ceiling. It's easy because Ferrari made the electronic assists on this car so smart that you sometimes forget you're driving a 700+ hp rear-drive car.
This 3.9-liter V8 is an International Engine of the Year winner — Ferrari reworked the intake, exhaust, crankshaft, flywheel, and titanium con rods from the 488 GTB, shedding 18 kg while gaining 50 hp. In FH6 you can feel how hungry this engine is — the turbos spool almost instantly, full torque arrives by 2,500 rpm, and it pulls to the 8,000 rpm redline without ever running out of breath. With the 7-speed dual-clutch, upshifts land so fast it feels like someone kicked you in the back.
But big-power RWD is still big-power RWD. Step up to S2 with 900+ hp and the 488 Pista gets genuinely violent — corner-exit throttle has to be precise to the millimeter. The real fun is in S1 — keep it near the stock 720 hp, dial in the suspension and differential, and you get an all-rounder supercar that can set lap times, drift, run highways, and thread through narrow streets.

S1 with the stock power is the most balanced state. The 488 Pista's chassis was designed around 720 hp from birth, and the suspension geometry, aero, and brakes are all matched to it straight from the factory. Bumping to 780 hp stays reasonably controllable, but front grip starts to run out — this car is light in the nose, the front axle only carries 42% of the weight, and more power makes corner-exit understeer more obvious. The S2 900+ hp build is only for players confident in their throttle control; it's very fast but has almost zero margin for error.
Tuning Parameters — Every Setting Explained
Tire Pressure
Front: 30.5 PSI, Rear: 30.0 PSI. The 488 Pista is light in the nose and heavy in the tail, with roughly 42:58 front-rear weight distribution. The front tires carry less load, so lower pressure adds contact patch and steering response. The rears absorb most of the acceleration load, and 30.0 PSI is deliberately low so the tires expand to their ideal working pressure once they heat up. In long races the rear tires usually run 3-5 degrees hotter than the fronts, and this setting balances that out naturally.
Gear Ratios
Final Drive Ratio: 4.30 (S1). The twin-turbo V8's torque plateau stretches from 2,500 to past 6,500 rpm, so the gearing doesn't need to be aggressive. Stretch 1st and 2nd slightly to avoid wheelspin off the line, then pack 3rd through 6th close together so the revs always land in the 4,000-6,500 sweet spot on corner exit. Don't hold it past 7,500 — torque starts falling off above 6,800 rpm, and 6,800 is the right shift point.
Alignment
Camber: -2.5 front, -2.0 rear. It's a mid-engined RWD with a weight advantage in the tail, but the front tires carry all the steering force and most of the braking load in corners, so the fronts need more negative camber to resist lateral deflection. -2.0 in back is enough to keep corner-exit grip. Toe: 0.0 front, 0.1 rear. Zero front toe gives precise turn-in, and a touch of rear toe-in keeps the mid-engine weight transfer from wagging the tail on lift-off. Caster: 7.0.
Anti-Roll Bars
Front: 28.0, Rear: 30.0. Like most RWD cars, the rear anti-roll bar is stiffer than the front. The 488 Pista's mid-engine layout puts the weight rearward, so the tail doesn't lean much mid-corner and the rear bar doesn't need to be aggressive. The 28.0 front bar keeps the nose hooked up in high-speed corners, while the slightly stiffer rear bar gives the tail enough willingness to rotate. If corner-exit power is making you slide, drop the rear bar to 28.0 and raise the front to 29.0.
Springs
Front: 650 lb/in, Rear: 750 lb/in. Standard mid-engine fare — the rear springs have to be stiffer to hold up the engine and gearbox. The 488 Pista is track-oriented from the factory, so the springs can't be too soft. Ride height: lower 1.5 inches. This car sits high from the factory, and dropping 1.5 inches improves the center of gravity a lot without bottoming out. You can go 100 lb/in stiffer on race springs, but street surfaces will rattle the wheel right out of your hands.
Damping
Rebound: 8.5 front, 8.0 rear. Bump: 5.5 front, 5.0 rear. Rebound controls how fast the body settles — the 488 Pista doesn't have much inertia, so it doesn't need extreme rebound. The relatively soft bump keeps the tires planted on FH6's undulating road courses. For pure track running you can add 1.0 to bump, but don't exceed 6.5/6.0, or you'll bounce out of control on rough pavement.
Aero
The 488 Pista's stock aero is already strong — the S-Duct up front and the diffuser out back were lifted straight from the 488 Challenge race car. In FH6, fit the Forza front lip (grip-biased) and the Forza wing, and set the wing downforce at 60-65%. Past 65% the downforce drags the top speed too much; 60% is a great number that still runs 340+ while staying stable as a train on rails at high speed. Don't max out the downforce — this car already has grip to spare, and more just gets you walked on the big straights.
Brakes
Balance: 52% front, Pressure: 105%. A mid-engined car shifts its weight forward more than a front-engine car under braking, so the front wheels work hard. The 52% front balance lets both ends reach their limit at the same time. 105% pressure is plenty — the 488 Pista's stock carbon-ceramic brakes are absurdly strong, so there's no need to crank it. If you keep locking the fronts into corners, drop to 100% and practice progressive braking (press to 30%press to 70%release).
Differential
Accel Lock: 65%, Decel Lock: 35%. The differential setup on a mid-engined RWD is critical. 65% accel lock makes sure both rear wheels put power down on exit without locking so much that it causes understeer — lock it too hard and the inside/outside wheel speed difference gets flattened, making the car resist turning. 35% decel lock is deliberately conservative, aimed at keeping the tail stable under trail braking. If you're a drift player you can push accel lock to 75-80%, but it'll cost you lap time.
Best Race Types
Road racing — the 488 Pista's natural habitat. In S1 it has almost no weak spots on road courses, it's especially strong in mid- and high-speed corners, and its corner-exit acceleration is top-tier among all RWD cars. Street racing — also fine, as long as the pavement isn't too rough; big-power RWD gets nervous over potholes. High-speed rally — not recommended; a mid-engined car spins too easily on gravel. Drift zones — usable but not perfect; the stock setup exits corners so cleanly that it's actually hard to initiate a slide, so you'll need extra differential tuning. Rain — RWD is clearly disadvantaged in the wet; drop both tire pressures 1.5 PSI and both anti-roll bars by 2.0 just to make it drivable.
Tuning Share Codes
The 488 Pista tuning scene has two main camps: S1 lap-time purists and S2 top-speed fanatics. The S1 crowd chases precise suspension and a differential that puts every last bit of power down on exit, and the competition between lap-time hunters is fierce. The S2 crowd goes full brute-force build — 950 hp plus every weight-reduction mod, chasing straight-line dominance over handling. Common Tuning Mistakes
Rear springs too soft. The biggest mid-engine trap is assuming a light car can use soft springs. The 488 Pista's tail is loaded with a V8 plus gearbox plus turbos plus intercoolers, and anything under 750 lb just won't hold it. You'll regret soft springs at the first corner — the body rolls so hard the tire sidewalls dig in, and the handling rating drops a full 0.5.
Copying front-drive tire pressures. I've seen plenty of people run 33 front / 32 rear on a mid-engined RWD, reasoning that higher pressure means less rolling resistance and more top speed. On a mid-engined RWD that just shrinks the rear contact patch, and the car spins the moment you breathe on the throttle out of a corner. The rear tires on a mid-engined RWD need contact patch even more than a front-engine car — when in doubt, run lower, not higher.
Ignoring decel lock. A lot of people only tune accel lock and leave decel at default. The 488 Pista needs decel lock to stabilize the tail on entry — the mid-engine has a high center of gravity, the rear lifts slightly under braking, and without enough decel lock the rear wheels spin independently and corner-entry stability falls apart.
Power before chassis. The 488 Pista has 720 hp from the factory — already supercar-grade at this weight. Adding turbos, upgrading the intercooler, and flashing the ECU for an extra 100 hp is less useful than nailing weight reduction and suspension first. A 1,250 kg / 720 hp 488 Pista laps a full second faster than a 1,385 kg / 820 hp one — tested it myself.
