FH6 Controller Settings — Tune Inputs for Speed

Default controller settings feel comfortable, not fast. Five minutes of adjustments make the car respond more precisely and shave time off every lap.

Deadzones

Steering inside: 0-3. Lower = more responsive. Start at 0, increase only if car feels nervous in straights. Steering outside: 95-100. Higher = more stick range for fine control. Set to 100. Acceleration/deceleration inside: 0-5. As low as possible without accidental resting inputs.

Linearity

Default 50 = 1:1 linear response. Below 50: less sensitive at center, good for twitchy cars. Above 50: more sensitive at center, good for vague/unresponsive cars. Start at 50 and adjust by feel. Vibration: 40-60%. Full vibration is tiring and masks subtle handling cues. Some top drivers disable it entirely.

My FH6 Controller Setup

After 200+ hours in FH6 across controllers and wheels, my recommended controller settings balance precision and comfort. Vibration: on (essential for feeling traction loss). Steering deadzone: 0 (any deadzone delays your inputs). Steering linearity: 1 (makes small corrections smoother). Acceleration deadzone: 5 (prevents unintended throttle from resting thumb). Brake deadzone: 5. Button mapping: A for clutch, LB for handbrake, RB for shift up, X for shift down. This gives you full manual-with-clutch control without taking thumbs off the sticks. For drifting, increase steering linearity to 2-3 for smoother countersteer transitions. For competitive racing, decrease linearity to 0-1 for more direct steering response. The most impactful setting change for new players: reduce FFB scale to 70-80% — the default 100% clips the FFB signal and makes it harder to feel tire slip onset. With 70% FFB, you get cleaner force feedback that actually communicates what the tires are doing.

Additionally, FH6 has advanced controller settings that are worth exploring. Vibration scale affects how much force feedback detail you feel through the controller. Set it to 100% for drifting (you need to feel every tire slip), 70-80% for racing (cleaner signal, less clipping). The traction control setting is personal preference: TC on for consistency and wet racing, TC off for faster lap times if you have good throttle control. I run TC off in dry S1/S2 but on in wet conditions — the 0.3-second lap time penalty is worth avoiding a single spin that costs 3 seconds. For players transitioning from automatic to manual, start with manual (no clutch) — it's much easier to learn than manual-with-clutch and still gives you 90% of the benefit. Add clutch control after you've mastered manual shifting for at least 20 hours.
