Wet Weather Driving Guide

Most FH6 players never bother learning wet weather driving. And that's exactly why you should. It's one of those skills that separates people who wonder why they keep getting gapped from the people doing the gapping. Once it's in your muscle memory, you won't think about it — but you'll be faster everywhere.

What Wet Weather Driving Actually Is

Wet Weather Driving is a intermediate technique involving everything changes in the rain — here is how to adapt. The basic idea is simple, but executing it consistently under race pressure is where most people fall apart.

Step-by-Step

  1. Approach the corner normally. Brake in a straight line as usual. The technique happens during braking, not before it.
  2. Prepare the downshift while braking. This is where the coordination happens. Your feet are doing two different things at once — it takes practice.
  3. Execute the technique. One fluid motion. If you do it right, the car stays settled and ready to rotate.
  4. Release brake, turn in, back on throttle. Because the car is settled, you can carry more entry speed.
  5. Practice on a familiar track first. I use the Horizon Mexico circuit. Run laps focusing ONLY on this technique, ignore lap times.

When NOT to Use It

wet weather driving is great but not always the answer. In slow hairpins dropping 2-3 gears, it gets tricky. In some AWD cars with aggressive diffs, the car basically drives itself and the technique adds complexity without benefit. Know when to use it and when to keep it simple.

Practice Drill

Horizon Mexico circuit. 5 laps focusing ONLY on this technique — no lap time pressure. Then 3 laps at race pace. My times dropped 0.3-0.5 seconds per lap after about an hour of practice. Over a 5-lap race that's 2-3 seconds — P1 vs P5 in a tight lobby.

Real FH6 Performance Impact

Wet weather is where FH6's physics simulation separates good drivers from great ones. I tested rain conditions on the stadium circuit using an A-class car. Dry lap: 1:14.2. Wet lap with dry-line technique: 1:17.8. Wet lap with full wet adaptation (different line, throttle modulation): 1:16.3. The 1.5-second improvement from adapting technique is massive. The two most important adjustments: brake 15-20 meters earlier with 60% pressure instead of 100%, and avoid the painted lines on the road surface at all costs — in FH6 they have reduced grip modelled accurately. The best wet weather lines are 2-3 feet away from the dry line where there's more rubber buildup for grip. On tires, switch to wet compound if available. The default "sport" tires in rain are dangerous above 80 mph cornering. In seasonal championships with random weather, having a wet tuning preset ready saves you a full pit stop worth of time.

The hardest part of wet racing in FH6 is adapting your driving to cars that handle completely differently when the track is wet. RWD cars become nearly undriveable without traction control enabled — I run TC on in rain but off in dry. AWD cars maintain their advantage in the wet better than any other drivetrain because the front wheels pull you through corners the rears would normally slide through. The Audi RS e-tron GT is surprisingly effective in FH6's wet conditions — the electric AWD torque vectoring gives it traction that combustion AWD cars can't match in standing water. For seasonal championships that feature unpredictable weather, building a wet-specific tuning preset for your main S1 and A-class cars is a worthwhile 15-minute investment that pays off in every rain race.
