Race tires: 1:52.0, best lap times but the grip threshold is harder to feel — the transition from grip to slide is much sharper. In practice, sport tires are the best value for A-class and below. Race tires become mandatory for S2 and X-class where cornering forces are higher. For wet conditions, the wet race compound is 2-3 seconds per lap faster than any dry tire in standing water. Track width is also important: fitting the widest tires the car allows increases the contact patch and improves cornering grip by about 5-8%, but beyond 9 inches of width the returns diminish. The tire compound choice matters more than width for lap time.

Tire width is another crucial but often overlooked variable. I tested three front/rear width combinations on the same car and track. Stock width (235mm all around): predictable but mid-corner understeer, average 1:53.1. Staggered setup (255 front, 285 rear): massive rear grip improvement, the car rotated better into corners and had more traction on exit, 1:52.4. Tire pressure also matters: lower pressure (26-28 PSI) increases contact patch for cornering at the expense of straight-line rolling resistance and cooling. For hot lapping under 5 laps, run lower pressure. For race distances over 5 laps, increase pressure 1-2 PSI to prevent overheating. Tire temperature management in FH6 adds a layer of strategy most players ignore — and those who manage it gain 0.3-0.5 seconds in the second half of a race.
