FH6 Manual Shifting — When to Shift, When to Hold
Switching to manual transmission is the biggest free performance upgrade in FH6. Zero credits, zero parts, worth 0.5-2.0 seconds per lap.
Shift Timing by Engine
Naturally aspirated: shift at redline. Power builds to the top. Turbocharged: shift 300-800 RPM before redline. Turbo powerbands drop off sharply after peak torque (3,500-5,500 RPM). The Supra's B58 peaks at 4,500 RPM, falls off by 6,200. Shift at 6,000, not 7,000. Supercharged: shift at redline, boost is linear. EVs: no transmission, ignore everything.
Short-Shifting for Traction
Shift 1,000-2,000 RPM early to reduce wheel torque in lower gears. Use in RWD cars with too much power, corner exit in low gears, wet roads, dirt. Full RPM shifts for AWD with good traction, long straights, higher gears where torque multiplication is already low.
Hold Gears Through Corners
Never shift mid-corner. Upshift unsettles the rear. Downshift disturbs the chassis. Hold gear through corner, shift on exit straight. Exception: bouncing off limiter for more than half a second means you should have shifted earlier.
