El Lago Retreat — FH6 Lakeside House Guide (Photo Mode Locations)
Location: Lake District | Price: $750,000* | Perk: Unlocks Photo Mode locations
* Price and location are estimates based on FH5 patterns. Not confirmed for FH6.
El Lago Retreat is one of those purchases you'll either use constantly or forget exists. Depends entirely on how much you care about FH6's photo community. The Photo Mode locations perk marks scenic photo spots on the map and rewards you with credits and XP for photographing cars at each one. If you're a completionist who needs to check every box, this is a solid mid-game buy. If you're purely focused on racing, you can skip it without missing anything.
The retreat sits on the shore of the Lake District, which in FH6 is the large inland lake in the northeastern quadrant of the map. It's a wooden A-frame cabin with a private dock, floor-to-ceiling windows facing the lake, and a compact 6-car garage. I bought it mostly because the morning fog rolling off the lake looks incredible and I spawn here for photo sessions all the time. It's genuinely one of the prettiest spawn points in the game.
How Photo Mode Locations Work
Once you own El Lago Retreat, blue camera icons appear at scenic spots around the map. Drive to one, enter Photo Mode, take a picture of your car — you'll get a credit bonus (usually 5,000-15,000 credits per location) and XP (around 2,000-5,000 XP). There are roughly 50-60 photo locations scattered across the FH6 map, and photographing all of them is tracked as a completion metric. I've done about half of them so far, mostly when I'm bored between events.
The real value of this perk isn't the individual location rewards — it's the Horizon Promo tie-in. In FH5, photographing every car in the game (Horizon Promo) was a massive grind that rewarded exclusive cars and accolades. The Photo Mode locations from the equivalent house made this way easier because you could combine car photography with location photography. FH6 is expected to expand the Horizon Promo system, which would make El Lago Retreat more valuable than it is at launch. If the pattern holds, this house goes from "nice to have" to "basically essential" once Promo drops.
Should You Buy It?
If you're a completionist who wants 100% on the FH6 accolade board, buy it after Castillo del Sol. The photo locations count toward completion percentage and some of the accolade rewards are exclusive cars. I've seen people miss out on cars worth millions because they skipped this house and couldn't be bothered with photo mode.
If you couldn't care less about photo mode and just want to race, skip it. The monetary rewards from photographing 50+ locations add up to maybe 500,000 credits total — that doesn't justify the 750,000 purchase price on its own. You're buying it for the completion tracking, not for the credit return.
The cabin itself is a pleasant place to spawn, especially if you like driving mountain roads. The Lake District roads are FH6's equivalent of FH5's Derwent Reservoir — tight, technical roads with water on one side and rock face on the other. Great for testing handling tunes, terrible for top-speed runs. I use these roads to shake down every new build. If a car handles well here, it'll handle well anywhere.
